I know you always wonder why does a pimple turn black and if there’s something we can do about this. Well, in today’s article, I will try to answer the most frequently asked question when it comes to skin concern.

Why Pimple Gets Dark and Leaves Mark on Your Skin
We all know that when the sebaceous glands of our body produce excess oil, makeup, dirt and so much more builds up and gets trapped on our skin’s surface. This will then result in skin inflammation which will trigger your immune system to discharge substances to accelerate and raise melanocytes in your epidermis.
When this process takes place, your body will produce more melanin and will also increase your ability to transfer pigment on your skin cells which will then result in dark spots. This condition is referred to as inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Now, the real question is what should you do when your pimple turn black? Well, you can just simply wait for them to vanish or you can make necessary steps to get rid of it. Of course, you can pay a visit to your dermatologist to help you remove these stubborn marks. She would most likely recommend chemical peeling which could take more than just one session before you start seeing the results. She may also let you use skin lightening creams with ingredients like kojic acid or retinol just to minimize the marks’ appearance.

Natural and Healthy Ways to Get Rid Pimple Marks
1. Minimize your exposure to the sun
The UV rays of the sun are very harmful that it could cause even more damage to your skin. When your existing pimple marks gets exposed, the UV rays of the sun will only further darken these marks and will make them stay longer.
So the key is definitely to avoid staying outdoors, but if you really have to go out, just make sure you don’t forget to apply sunscreen first and wear clothing that could protect you against the sun’s harmful rays.
2. Apply aloe vera gel
Since there so many vitamins in a gel produced by a fresh aloe vera, it can help you heal your skin as well as fade the scars. What’s great about aloe vera is that it is very gentle, we can be confident that it won’t further irritate or damage your skin. What’s, even more, is that aloe vera is a very great natural moisturizer, this will keep your skin feeling soft and looking healthy.
Here’s how to do it:
- Take a small piece of an aloe vera leaf. Break it off and remove the external flesh so you can extractthe gel.
- Using your clean hands, massage the gel gently onto your pimple marks.
- Allow the gel to fully soak to your skin for at about 30 minutes before thoroughly wash it off.

3. Use lemon juice.
Lemon is not only a natural bleach but it also packed with Vitamin C that can help you rebuild your skin’s collagen. Hence using it for your acne scars fade the spots day by day.
Lemon is absolutely a great lightening agent to the skin. It can actually help you fade your freckles and quickly lighten any dark scars. What’s even great is that you can always easily grab them in your fridge!
Here’s how to do it:
- Squeeze the juice of a fresh lemon
- Apply the lemon juice directly to your pimple scars using your clean finger or a tip of the cotton ball
- Let it soak for 10 minutes before washing it off.
Bonus Tip! You can mix lemon juice with honey to make it even more effective in fading your acne scars. If you have a very sensitive skin, I suggest you mix rose water to the lemon juice before applying to your scar.
But take note that applying lemon juice to your skin will make your skin sensitive to the harmful sun’s rays, so don’t forget to apply sunscreen before stepping out.
4. Use baking soda.
Here’s another way that’s getting popular today. Since baking soda has exfoliating effects it can efficiently remove the dead skin layer of your face with the use of its gentle coarse granules. What’s great is that it will not cause any inflammation during the application.
Here’s how to do it:
- Mix water with one to two teaspoons of baking soda until you create a consistent paste.
- Take the paste and gently massage it to your pimple scars for about one to two minutes.
- Leave the paste in the affected area for few minutes before washing it off with warm water.
- Repeat the process at least twice a week
Don’t forget to apply some of your favorite moisturizers after the process. I highly recommend rosehip oil as they are also good for fighting acne.
5. Use a raw potato.
This vegetable in your kitchen does not only make a good ingredient to your favorite dish but can also do wonders for getting rid of your scars. But you will need a lot of patience for this method to work, it may take a while.
Here’s how to do it:
- Cut potato into round slices
- Rub a slice gently over your pimple scar; use circular motion
- Continue rubbing until you will start to feel the dryness of potato.
- Then take another slice and do the three steps above.
- Do this for about 20 minutes.
Wait a moment before you wash off the juice of potato in your skin so it gets absorbed. Make sure to apply moisturizer after too! I suggest you do this method three to four times a week for at least one to two months or until you notice your scar has faded off. As I said, you will need patience in waiting for the result.
6. Use slices of raw tomatoes
Rubbing slices of tomato over your acne scars has also been proven to be effective in minimize the appearance of the scar. This is because tomatoes are loaded with Vitamin A as well as carotenes, which does not only responsible for tomatoes’ red color but are also antioxidant. It can help you heal any damaged tissues and aids in your cells healthy regrowth.
Here’s how to do it:
- Cut a ripe tomato into pieces
- Make a pulp from it by crushing the tomatoes
- Apply the pulp on your face
- Let your skin absorb it for about 20 minutes before washing off your face.
- Repeat this method every day for a least a week or more.
7. Take the precautions.
Make it a habit to wash your face two times a day. No matter how tired you are during the night, just make use of your remaining strength to completely remove your make up and clean your face. Use a mild cleanser in thoroughly cleaning your skin.
